Holly Hill Receives a $100,000 BequestWhen Clyde N. Day passed away November 26, just a few months short of his 105th birthday, he left a tremendous legacy to the children of Northern Kentucky. Born on February 9, 1907 in Covington, Kentucky, he was the first child of Everett and Florence Day. His only sibling, a sister, died at a very young age. He was a proud graduate of Holmes High School and began his professional career working for the YMCA. He went on to have a long career with the Internal Revenue Service, where he was the recipient of numerous awards for his dedicated service. Clyde also was fortunate enough to have the company of two loving spouses during his lifetime, with both of his marriages lasting for more than thirty years. His fist wife, Carolyn, died in 1970 and his second wife, Margaret (Peggy), predeceased him by a few months. He had an intense love of fine music, good food and was devoted to his faith in God and his church. Although he never had children of his own, the needs of children were always among his concerns. His frugal lifestyle enabled him the opportunity to serve others after he was gone. Not only did he bequeath $100,000 gifts to several children’s charities in the area (including Holly Hill), his estate has established The Clyde N. Day Foundation which will continue to help children and those in need in Northern Kentucky for many years to come. Story by Board member Jan Kreutzer and photograph by Enquirer photographer Michael Keating - both were dear friends of Clyde's. |
